U.S. stocks are gaining in early trading with the SPDR S&P 500 (SPY) up 0.2% Thursday morning. Overnight, it was all about Japan, with the Nikkei 225 tumbling another 5.15% after last Thursday’s drop of more than 7%. Although the Nikkei is still up more than 30% year-to-date, last night’s pullback made it a 14.75% correction from the highs. Big bullish interest after Japan’s close, however, tells a different story. Nikkei futures surged more than 400 points based on reports that Japanese pension funds may now be able to invest money into equity markets rather than just Japanese government bonds On the S&P 500, a break and close below 1635 could take us back to the 50-day moving average for the second time this year, which would represent a healthy 5% correction. Resistance is 1656, then 1674. The financials (XLF) held the 8-day while most other sectors tested the 21-day twice. Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS) acts very well. It’s above its 8-day and if it clears $ 164.50 it could go again. JPMorgan (NYSE:JPM) also acts very well. It’s above $ 55ish and could extend. Bank of America (NYSE:BAC) could make a move to new highs if it can get above $ 13.55. In technology, Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) triggered potential high level stops around $ 908 as the upper flag broke. Now it’s struggling to hold its 21-day MA. If it can’t get back above $ 870ish with authority, it could see its 50-day or the prior high around $ 844. Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) is getting cho

It was the longest night of the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs, but it was the oldest guy on the ice in Jaromir Jagr who made the key play to set up Bruins clutch centre Patrice Bergeron for his third career OT playoff winner for a 2-1 win, and 3-0 series advantage in the East final. BOSTON — Jaromir Jagr's always has thrived after midnight. When he was younger it was party time. The past several seasons it has been training time. You've heard about those midnight on-ice sessions at the practice facilities in Philadelphia, Dallas and Boston, haven't you? Sometimes, Jagr skates by himself. Other times, he cajoled a few teammates to join him. So when Game 3 of the East final between the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins evolved into double overtime and into the wee hours of the Thursday morning, there wasn't a player on the TD Garden ice who was more accustomed to skating past midnight than the 41-year-old Czech native. Yep, it was the longest night of the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs, but it was the oldest guy on the ice who made the key play to set up Bruins clutch centre Patrice Bergeron for his third career OT playoff winner for a 2-1 win , and 3-0 series advantage in the East final. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound Jagr out-muscled Pittsburgh centre Evgeni Malkin, who is 45 pounds lighter, but 15 years younger, along the boards. Jagr then slid the puck up to linemate Brad Marchand, who in turn passed the puck into the middle for a Bergero

News of Susan Rice replacing Tom Donilon , who resigned as national security adviser, broke during Morning Joe on Wednesday — prompting Joe Scarborough & Company to provide reaction. The roundtable disagreed over Republican reaction and how Rice will fare, while Tina Brown argued President Obama “owed” Rice after she took a harsh round of criticism over Benghazi. “This is the president saying, ‘I’m in my second term and I’m going to do whatever I want to do,’” Scarborough asserted. If not secretary of state (for which Rice withdrew her name), Chuck Todd said it was expected Rice would get a job in the West Wing. She’s “a comfort pick.” Scarborough, however, expected sound and fury from Republicans. The Washington Post’ s Eugene Robinson said GOP outrage wouldn’t amount to anything and it’s the president’ prerogative to choose a person for the role. The Sunday show outrage following Benghazi, Brown added, appears only to have created a deeper bond between Obama and Rice. “I think he felt he owed her this even more, that he wanted to do this and she was trashed on his behalf,” she argued. “She behaved eloquently over that and didn’t whine about it and did it with fortitude — and now she gets her reward.” But it will cause a “deeper divide” between Obama and his opponents, Scarborough argued — which Todd disagreed with. Rice is hawkish and an interventionist, he noted. Talking points controversy aside, Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and L
