Nasdaq Agrees To $ 10M Penalty For Handling Of Facebook IPO by Mark Memmott May 29, 2013 1:34 PM One year after Facebook's troubled initial public offering , the Securities and Exchange Commission announced Wednesday that it has "charged Nasdaq with securities laws violations resulting from its poor systems and decision-making … [and that] Nasdaq has agreed to settle the SEC's charges by paying a $ 10 million penalty." According to the SEC, that is the largest such penalty ever paid by one of the stock exchanges. The agency says that: "Despite widespread anticipation that the Facebook IPO would be among the largest in history with huge numbers of investors participating, a design limitation in Nasdaq's system to match IPO buy and sell orders caused disruptions to the Facebook IPO. NASDAQ then made a series of ill-fated decisions that led to the rules violations." As CNBC reminds its readers : "Facebook's debut last May, one of the most talked-about IPOs in recent history, was marred by technical problems . "First, Facebook shares started trading a half-hour late. Then, some traders began complaining that it didn't seem like their orders were being completed. Others found that they were getting shares at a higher price than they expected." Additional Information: The Wall Street Journal (paywall protected) adds that : "The move follows months of back-and-forth between the exchange operator and the Securities and Exchange Commissio
Obama Agrees With Selling Morning-After Pills to 15 Year-Old Girls

Barack Obama told reporters in Mexico today that he was OK with morning-after pills being sold to 15 year-old girls without a prescription. The AP reported: President Barack Obama said Thursday he was comfortable with his administration’s decision to allow over-the-counter purchases of a morning-after pill for anyone 15 and older. The Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday had lowered the age at which people can buy the Plan B One-Step morning-after pill without a prescription to 15 – younger than the current limit of 17. The FDA decided that the pill could be sold on drugstore shelves near condoms, instead of locked behind pharmacy counters. Obama, speaking at a news conference while in Mexico, said the FDA’s decision was based on “solid scientific evidence.” What’s still unclear is whether the administration will prevail on its appeal of a court order that would lift all age limits on purchasers of the pill. That decision to appeal set off a storm of criticism from reproductive rights groups, who denounced it as politically motivated and a step backward for women’s health.

John Boehner Agrees With Obama: ‘We Don’t Have An Immediate Debt Crisis’

House Speaker John Boehner agreed with President Barack Obama on Sunday that the U.S. does not have an "immediate" debt crisis — but that's where the agreement ends between the two leaders on how to reduce the deficit. "We do not have an immediate debt crisis," Boehner said on ABC 's "This Week." "But we all know that we have one looming. And we have one looming because we have entitlement programs that are not sustainable in their current form. They’re going to go bankrupt." Boehner's comments are significant in the sense that they're similar to Obama's just last week in an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos . "We’ve already cut $ 2.5 to $ 2.7 trillion out of the deficit," Obama said. "If the sequester stays in, you’ve got over $ 3.5 trillion of deficit reduction already. And, so, we don’t have an immediate crisis in terms of debt." When ABC's Martha Raddatz followed up with Boehner, he reiterated that the problem is not immediate. But "no one knows," he said, when it will be a problem — it could be "a year or two years, three years, four years." Obama's "point, as he went on to say in that interview, is that we don't really need to do anything at this point," Boehner said. "And I would argue that we do need to do something." To that point, Boehner emphasized spending cuts to entitlements as an immediate solution and repeating a familiar refrain he has pushed since the deal to avert the fiscal cliff in January. "The Presid

Four Years Later, Everyone Finally Agrees Obama and the Democrats Don’t Want “Common Ground” on Abortion

Remember four years ago when pro-Obama catholics like Doug Kmiec and the usual suspects told us all that Barack Obama and the Democratic party represented the way forward when it came to common ground on abortion? The claim got plenty of attention in the 2008 campaign. I called it out at the time as a feint to confuse and mislead pro-life Catholics of all political persuasions. Fast forward to today, and now EVERYONE agrees the Democratic party and Barack Obama have completely discarded even the semblance of common ground on the issue of abortion. You need look no further than this story that ran in today’s Politico headlined “ Democrats go all in for abortion rights “: This was supposed to be an election in which the economy dominated the debate, social issues took a backseat and the culture wars were put on hold. Yet in the homestretch of the 2012 campaign, abortion politics is coloring races up and down the ticket. And it’s by design. Democrats have gone all in for abortion rights, with none of the hedging or defensiveness they’ve shown in recent years — a subtle but striking repositioning with political consequences that extend far beyond Nov. 6. The evidence of it is impossible to miss. The airwaves are choked with messaging about women’s reproductive health. Abortion rights advocates had prime speaking roles at the Democratic convention. Contraception advocate Sandra Fluke is a prominent campaign trail surrogate. Cecile Ric

Paul Ryan agrees with Joe Biden – over the last four years, the middle class has been buried (Video)

Gotta suck for Obama when Joe Biden speaks the truth and it comes back to bite them in the ass. Earlier today Joe Biden had a moment of truth when he said over the last four years, the middle class has been buried . Thanks of course to Obama and the Marxist Democrats failed policies and regulation. Here’s Paul Ryan agreeing with the current dimwit known as vice president: “Unemployment has been above 8% for the last 43 months, our economy is limping along right now. Vice President Biden just today said that the middle class over the last four years has been quote ‘buried.’ We agree. That means we need to stop digging by electing Mitt Romney as the next President of the United States. Of course the middle class has been buried. They’re being buried by regulations, being buried by taxes, they’re being buried by borrowing. They’re being buried by the Obama Administration’s economic failures.”
