Xbox One will launch across various Asian territories in 2014, but there’s no word of Japan yet, possibly because Xbox 360 has performed poorly there over the years. Speaking with the Wall Street Journal , Microsoft Asia exec Alan Bowman called the company’s approach to the continent a “staged approach”, and confirmed Xbox One for release in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and India around late 2014. Bowman added that Microsoft hopes last night’s Xbox One announcements will boost popularity of the Xbox brand in the markets mentioned above. He also stated that Xbox 360 has become the most-popular console in Asia, following annual revenue increases of 20% across the region. Still, it remains to be seen what will happen in Japan. Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield has been tweeting photos from space since he arrived on the International Space Station last December. Although the commander recently returned Earth he just chirped out this incredible image of the Himalayas to his nearly 100 million Twitter followers. The caption reads: "Tortured rock where India crashed into Asia and pushed up the Himalayas." More than 250 million years ago, Earth's landmasses were smushed into one super continent called Pangea. The Himalayas formed when the Indian tectonic plate rammed into the Eurasian plate. SEE ALSO: 23 Unforgettable Moments From Astronaut Chris Hadfield Please follow Science on Twitter and Facebook . How the island disputes are helping to warm the chilly U.S.-Japan relationship. President Barack Obama with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in the Oval Office at the White House, on February 22, 2013. (Larry Downing/Reuters) Newly elected Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his Foreign Minister, Fumio Kashida, spent the day in Washington meeting with President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry on February 22. The statements made by both sides as the talks came to end showed that the two nations were remarkably on the same page with regard to the issues of trade and security. Of the most significance was the apparent reaffirmation given by Secretary Kerry that the disputed Senkaku/Diayou Islands were covered by the U.S.-Japan Security Treaty. This means that, in the event of an attack on the islands, the U.S. would be treaty-bound to come to Japan's defense. The success of the meeting surprised many people who follow U.S.-Japan affairs. Although the two nations are longtime allies, the relationship between the Obama administration and the revolving-door of Japanese prime ministers (Abe is the fifth Prime Minister elected by the Japanese legislature since Obama was first inaugurated in January 2009) has been anything but warm. The symbolism of John Kerry's commitments on the Senkaku dispute is sure to raise temperatures among the Chinese leadership. Disagreements between the Obama administration and the Japanese leaders

Last month, Apple released a list of its 748 suppliers . According to a new data visualization by ChinaFile , more than 600 of them are in Asia, and more than half of those are in China. That’s not surprising: we know Apple sources a lot of product — in fact almost all of its products — from Asia, where the company has had significant challenges with suppliers maintaining legal and ethical labor standards, in spite of efforts by CEO Tim Cook and others to improve working conditions . But it is interesting to see the breakdown. Here’s a partial list of the countries Apple sources product from: Mainland China: 331 suppliers Japan: 148 suppliers United States: 76 Taiwan: 35 suppliers Malaysia: 27 Singapore: 25 suppliers Philippines: 23 suppliers Thailand: 17 suppliers United Kingdom: 7 suppliers Israel: 5 suppliers Austria: 4 suppliers I guess that’s the definition of a multination corporation right there. Overall, with 88 percent of Apple’s supply chain in Asia, only 11 percent of Apple’s suppliers are in its home country of the United States, and even fewer — seven percent — of Apple’s suppliers are in Europe and the Middle East. Apple has planned to bring some manufacturing back to the United States. Tim Cook announced last last year that Apple would be spending over $ 100 million to bring some manufacturing back to the U.S., a move that some have derided as a mere publicity stunt . A bit expensive for a stunt, perhaps. That manuf

Google has continued to build its local focus in Southeast Asia after the search giant opened an office in the Philippines. The new location is its fifth in the region, which has a combined population of more than 600 million people. The office will be located in the country’s capital city of Manila and is headed up by Narciso Reyes, an executive with 16 years of marketing experience who was formerly with one-time Facebook rival Friendster and Web advertising firm Komli . Reyes had been Head of Sales for the Philippines so it’s entirely logical that, with an office opening, he heads up operations in the country. Google says it is actively hiring staff for the Manila office and that openings will be posted to its local jobs page ( here ) “in the coming days”. “This new office will allow us to better engage with our local users, partners and advertisers. Over 33 million Filipinos access the Internet regularly…and Internet use in the Philippines is set to grow exponentially. Research indicates that the number of Filipinos online will have nearly doubled by 2016,” said Julian Persaud, Managing Director of Google in Southeast Asia. Government Undersecretary Manuel L. Quezon III also provided comment. “We are delighted that Google has decided to set up an office in Manila. Their presence is a testament to their commitment to the Philippines. We hope that Google’s entry will encourage more local businesses to go online and tap into inte

Congratulations to Hd & Nitz Yco for achieving the rank of Double Diamond! Their hard work over the last month has been remarkable, as has the work of all our other Philippines Associates who’ve been building their businesses in the face of a national disaster. Ed and Nitz express their thanks during their recognition Hd and his group were able to accomplish great things in the midst of a series of calamities that hit the Philippines during the last week of July. Several typhoons have battered Metro Manila as well as key provincial areas with high winds, heavy rains, and dangerous flood levels. In Metro Manila alone, school classes were suspended from July 30 to August 1 because of the flooding across the city. Despite these hardships, about 500 Leaders and Associates from Metro Manila and the Luzon region braved the rains to attend a Leadership Training Meeting and Celebration. Scenes of the devastating flooding in the Philippines In achieving Double Diamond Rank, Hd & Nitz Yco are the first to do so in Asia. This is a monumental landmark for Max Philippines and promises to be the start of even greater things in the future. In the process of achieving Double Diamond, Hd & Nitz were able to promote a new Platinum (Dan & April Yalung), three Golds (Conrad & Del Yalung, Bernard Villalobos, Dennis & Vivian Soriano) as well as thirteen Silvers and twenty-one Bronzes during the month of July.
