This was just weird. Barack Obama lectured the class of 2013 today on sexual abuse in his commencement speech at the US Naval Academy. CNN reported: A rash of sexual assaults in the armed forces undermines Americans’ confidence in the military, President Barack Obama told newly commissioned officers at the U.S. Naval Academy Friday. “Those who commit sexual assault are not only committing a crime, they threaten the trust and discipline that makes our military strong,” Obama told the graduates, who were commissioned as Naval ensigns and Marine Corps second lieutenants. “That’s why we have to be determined to stop these crimes. Because they have no place in the greatest military on Earth,” Obama continued. The president’s remarks came amid mounting outrage over sexual abuse cases in the armed forces. Figures show the rate of assaults in the armed forced increasing, and some top officers are under fire for condoning such acts. It’s not clear if the rate of sexual violence is any higher in the military than in the general public . Nearly 1 in 2 women and 1 in 5 men experienced sexual violence other than rape at some point in their lives. Of course, the far left believe rape and abuse is what gets soldiers out of bed in the morning.

I recently had the pleasure of spending some time with a preview of the upcoming co-op focused, twin-stick shooter: Assault Android Cactus by developer Witch Beam – a three man team from Brisbane, Australia. Although you may have seen a few games with a similar premise (in a broad sense it feels like a modernized version of Smash TV with a number of twists), the execution and general polish of presentation in Assault Android Cactus set it apart from many others for me. Players will need to shoot through wave after wave of enemy robots which get progressively more chaotic while keeping kill chains up. Players must also adapt to frequently changing and dynamic environments, or even other quirks like the lights going out. If that wasn't enough, every few levels leads up to a huge boss battle which may contain some bullet-hell style dodging madness. In addition to a number of power-ups like extra mobility, extra drone guns and a slow/freeze effect – players will also have a number of characters to choose from, each with their own main and timed-use (extra powerful) secondary weapon. Depending on the level, it may make more sense to pick the android with the shotgun for limited range and slow speed but huge damage, while other times maybe you'd want a longer range weapon which fires extra fast for less damage per hit. Ideally if you're playing online with friends you'd customize a group which is somewhat compatible with the task at ha

Defense Secretary Hagel recently responded to a report that stated that sexual assaults in the military jumped by more than one-third since 2010 by offering changes to how the Department of Defense handles sexual abuse. A report showing that sexual assaults in the military jumped by more than one-third since 2010 led Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel on Tuesday to order the armed services to take immediate steps to curb the problem among troops… Pentagon estimates of how many troops are sexually assaulted show the numbers increased by 35% since 2010, from 19,300 service members believed to be victims that year to 26,000 in 2012. This comes after an Air Force Sexual Assault Prevention Unit Chief was charged with sexual battery further highlighting the issue. Defense Secretary Hagel offered the following reforms: • Holding commanders accountable for creating a climate in which sexual assault is prevented and victims are properly taken care of. • Reducing the stigma for victims of reporting sexual assault. • Enhancing sexual abuse prevention training and education programs for trainers and recruits. Whether these changes will make any difference remains to be seen, but it is worth considering that DoD personnel already receive training on sexual abuse and harassment. There is likely a larger problem with culture which will be more difficult to overcome. Pentagon Executive Summary Sexual Assault in Military

Obama urges vote on assault weapons ban

(CNN) – President Barack Obama called on the Senate to vote on a controversial ban on semiautomatic firearms modeled after military-style assault weapons, despite dim predictions from Senate leadership that such a ban will have any luck passing the upper chamber. "These ideas shouldn't be controversial – they're common sense. They're supported by a majority of the American people. And I urge the Senate and the House to give each of them a vote," Obama said in his weekly address. He said there is still "genuine disagreement among well-meaning people" on how to combat gun violence. But he, added, the American people "have spoken." On Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, introduced gun legislation targeted toward curbing gun deaths. However, it did not include the so-called assault weapons ban, nor another proposal backed by the Obama administration that would place limits on magazine capacities. The bill instead included measures that expand the background check system, boost school safety and toughen laws for gun trafficking. The Senate will begin debating the bill once it returns from recess in two weeks. Because of fierce opposition by the National Rifle Association, Republicans and some Democrats would get fewer than 40 votes on the assault weapons ban, Reid said, far below the threshold needed to defeat a filibuster or pass the Senate. He added that Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-California, the main proponent behi

Here’s The Daily News’ Powerful Cover Shaming The Senate For Dropping The Assault Weapons Ban

The Daily News — a publication that has advocated for stricter gun legislation in the wake of the Newtown, Conn., massacre — shamed the Senate on its cover today for dropping the assault weapons ban as part of a comprehensive package on gun legislation. The cover features photos of the 20 children who were killed in Newtown last December. Ever since, the Daily News has campaigned for new gun measures, including an assault weapons ban. But Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Tuesday that the assault weapons ban would not be brought to the floor as part of a package because it didn't even have 40 prospective votes. In an accompanying column , Mike Lupica ripped the "spineless" politicians who were "spitting on the graves" of the children killed in Newtown. Sen. Harry Reid Notes There’s Barely 40 Votes for Assault Weapons Ban; AP Buries Admission

This afternoon The Hill's Alexander Bolton and Jonathan Easley opened their story "Reid guts Senate gun control bill," with the Nevada Democrat's admission that Sen. Dianne Feinstein's assault weapons ban has at most 40 votes, while 51 are needed for passage and 60 to end cloture. Democrats, you may recall, control 55 seats in the upper chamber of Congress, including the two held by left-leaning independents. This admission shows just how unwilling red-state Democrats are to sign on to an assault weapons ban, especially one that most certainly go down in flames in the Republican-controlled House. But in reporting the same development, the AP's Alan Fram waited until the fifth paragraph to get to the cold, hard truth that Senate Democrats are gun-shy on pushing a new weapons ban: read more
