Just in case you want more Obama in your life… AT&T is loading iPhones with emergency alerts from Barack Obama… That you can’t switch off. Engadget reported: AT&T has begun rolling out Wireless Emergency Alerts updates for iPhone 4S and 5, so you won’t be the last folks to know if the entire northern hemisphere is about to be covered in ice à la Day After Tomorrow. You’ll receive a notification from the carrier when your update is ready, but only if you’re using iOS 6.1 or higher. Once installed, AMBER and Emergency alerts are automatically sent to your phone unless you switch them off via Settings. However, should you be tired of Obama, just know that there’s no way to switch off Presidential alerts. So now Barack can track your calls and send you messages, too. Hat Tip Michael

The script is getting old. In a process that is starting to look so programmatic, Defense Chief Chuck Hagel makes a statement last April saying something to the effect that the Obama administration has "some degree of varying confidence of sarin use" by the Syrian regime. This morning, the White House delivered — delivered a letter to several members of Congress on the topic of chemical weapons used in Syria. The letter, which will be made available to you here shortly — as soon as George gets it, we'll get it to you — states that the U.S. intelligence community assesses with some degree of varying confidence that the Syrian regime has used chemical weapons on a small scale in Syria, specifically the chemical agent sarin. Then he goes on to talk about so-called "red-lines," about trying to get "consensus from the intelligent community," and about the important role of the United Nations in trying to ascertain whether chemical weapons have been used by the Syrian regime. Precisely because the President takes this issue so seriously, we have an obligation to fully investigate any and all evidence of chemical weapons use within Syria. That is why we are currently pressing for a comprehensive United Nations investigation that can credibly evaluate the evidence and establish what took place. Once I saw that script, I knew right then and there (April, 2013) that we were going to get involved. With the end of the war in Iraq, and the

Supreme Court rules that human genes can’t be patented

The US Supreme Court issued a ruling earlier today, saying that human genes cannot be patented. Well that ruins my awesome future business plans of patenting my genetic awesomeness and selling it out of a mall kiosk. But in something of a compromise decision, all nine justices said while the naturally occurring isolated biological material itself is not patentable, a synthetic version of the gene material may be patented. “Genes and the information they encode are not patent-eligible under [federal law] simply because they have been isolated from the surrounding genetic material,” said Justice Clarence Thomas for the 9-0 court decision. The case involves Utah-based company Myriad Genetics, which was sued over its claim of patents relating to two types of biological material that it identified — BRCA1 and BRCA2, whose mutations are linked to increased hereditary risk for breast and ovarian cancer. Since Myriad owns the patent on breast cancer genes, it is the only company that can perform tests for potential abnormalities. Investors in Myriad were pleased with the ruling with the stock soaring as much as 9% before settling back. It was up more than 3% in midday trading. Myriad had no initial reaction to the decision. At issue is whether “products of nature” can be treated the same as “human-made” inventions, allowing them to be held as the exclusive intellectual property of individuals and companies. The issue has deeply divided t
Stewart Can’t Believe China Got Iraq Oil: Bush Bombed And Invaded Them And This Is How They Repay Us?!

Jon Stewart was stunned tonight to find that the winner of the Iraq war was not the United States, Iraq, or even Daniel Day-Lewis . It’s… incredibly long drum roll here … China! He complained, “Don’t you have to be in a war to win it?” As it turns out, China is receiving great economic benefit from purchasing a ton of Iraqi oil, but Stewart couldn’t help but feel Iraq was neglecting the U.S. and treating them poorly after the U.S. did so much… never mind. Stewart remarked that China has already beaten the U.S. at “synchronized drumming, bear cuteness, [and] air chewability,” and now they’re taking America’s big Iraq war win. He was slightly confused why Iraq would give a lot of oil contracts to China, saying to Iraq, “Come on, man! We launched a sustained shock-and-awe bombing campaign on your country, reduced your already-stressed infrastructure to rubble, and unleashed a bloody sectarian conflict that even now costs your country hundreds of lives per month… …and this is how you repay us?” Stewart boasted that when the U.S. spends two billion dollars in Iraq, it’s to look for “the other nine billion dollars we lost.” He mockingly declared the oil to belong to America, comparing Iraq to a slot machine and the U.S. to a “chain-smoking retiree just pumping in quarter after quarter after quarter,” and China waltzes in during our bathroom break and just wins after one quarter. And what’s the punchline to all this? China opposed the I

President Barack Obama spoke to the battered community of Moore, Oklahoma on Sunday afternoon, in the wake of last week’s devastating tornado. “Our hearts go out to the families who have been impacted, including those who have loved ones who were lost,” Obama said, “and that was true for the parents of some of the children here at Plaza Towers Elementary School.” Obama spoke before a backdrop of rubble piled higher than his head, an indicator of the extent of the damage still visible one week after the storm touched down. “This area’s known more than its share of heartbreak,” Obama said, “but people here pride themselves on the Oklahoma Standard, what Governor Fallin called being able to work through disasters like this and come out stronger on the other side.” “We know Moore is going to come back stronger from this tragedy,” Obama promised. “Your mayor said you’re already printing new street signs.” The president finished with a comment on the value of disaster preparation policies: A lot of the first responders talked about the training that they’ve done, in part through some federal grants, to prepare for disasters like this, and as a consequence, when it actually happens, they’re know what to do…Training, education, both for citizenry and but also for first responders, is absolutely critical, and we’ve gotta make sure those resources remain in place. I know everybody in Congress cares deeply about what’s happening, and I’m co

Former basketball star turned wannabe diplomat Dennis Rodman has indicated he will return to North Korea later this year. This time, however, he plans to use his trip to try and free American citizen Kenneth Bae from one of Kim Jong Un ‘s prison camps — especially because, as he believes, President Obama is incapable of freeing the imprisoned man. Bae was arrested in November 2012 while leading a legal tour of North Korea and sentenced to 15 years of hard labor because of his alleged “crimes aimed to topple the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.” Rodman, who famously visited with the hermetic dictator he calls “Kim” earlier this year, led an internet-based plea for Bae’s freedom, tweeting : “I’m calling on the Supreme Leader of North Korea or as I call him ‘Kim’, to do me a solid and cut Kenneth Bae loose.” TMZ cameras caught up with Rodman this week and asked him just how effective he believes his efforts will be. “Once I go back over there August 1st, I hope I can do one thing, at least get time served,” the former basketball star said. “It’s going to be difficult,” he continued, “because I think his nationality, as far as background, I think there’s a whole different situation. That’s the thing. But, hey, I’m not a diplomat, man.” As the reporter peppered him with questions about Bae, Rodman began to act dismissively, telling the cameraman: “I’m going to do one thing for you. We got a black president can’t even go talk to

(Associated Press) The White House said Wednesday that Syria’s future cannot include President Bashar Assad. White House spokesman Jay Carney said the U.S. views Syria’s future as being a post-Assad future. But he says it’s up to the Syrian opposition to decide which elements of Assad’s regime could be included in a transitional government.

Former Amb. To Israel On MSNBC: ‘US Will have To Get Involved’ In Syria, ‘Can’t Be Left Just To Others’

President Bill Clinton ’s former Ambassador to Israel, Martin Indyk , told MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell that the United States is obliged to intervene in Syria in the coming weeks. He said that the complicated task of removing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad from office and ensuring a transition to a successor government “can’t be left just to others.” In a discussion of the weekend’s events, in which Israeli warplanes are alleged to have carried out strikes in Syria, Mitchell said that “I have never seen a closer connection post-strike than in this instance between the US and Israel.” Indyk replied that this is not the first time in which President Barack Obama has affirmed Israel’s right to self-defense. He added that America and Israel have a number of common interests in Syria, including ensuring chemical arms do not find their way into the hands of Iranian-backed Hezbollah agents and that Assad is removed from power. At least, at this stage.” Indyk said that Obama’s administration has every reason to be “supportive” and “grateful” to Israel for carrying out strikes in Syria. However, he made it clear that the US cannot remain on the sidelines of the Sy
