Microsoft isn't prepared to share how used games on Xbox One will be handled – which had adverse effects on retailer GameStop's stock price yesterday – but the company is definitely going to be in the market. "We understand the secondary market is incredibly important today in the current generation. It will be incredibly important in the next generation," Phil Spencer, Microsoft Corporate VP of Microsoft Studios, said in an interview with us. "I love the fact that my identity, my saves and my content can go with me to any console I move to. The ability to have me and my content save in the cloud who I am, and I can move around, that obviously requires some capability to know what content you own, associated with you and how you move." He also danced around the always-online issue, something that already caused one public firing at Microsoft. "We also understand that sometime people's internet goes down and I shouldn't stop watching a movie or stop playing a single-player game when that happens. We'll support a tolerance where we can," he noted, but we were seeking specifics on how long the console could be offline. "You asked about the boundaries, how long will that work? I'll just tell you we don't know yet. We'll tell you when we have the answer and we can tell everybody. But we understand that secondary market is important to the ecosystem, no doubt." Source: www.businessinsider.com – Thursday, May 09, 2013
Earlier this month, US citizen Kenneth Bae was sentenced to 15 years of "hard labor" by the North Korean regime. Exactly what Bae did to deserve this is unclear . When his trial was announced, North Korea said he had "admitted that he committed crimes aimed to topple the Democratic People's Republic of Korea with hostility toward it." Finally, more details are coming out. North Korean news agency KNCA said today that Bae had smuggled in "inflammatory literature" into he country and tried to create a base for "anti-Pyongyang activities" in a border city hotel. James Pearson of NKNews.org reports that the KNCA alleges Bae had a 2007 National Geographic documentary called “Don’t tell my mother that I am in North Korea" in his possession. The documentary is one of a few "propaganda materials" Bae was carrying, KNCA alleges. The National Geographic documentary, filmed by French-Canadian reporter Diego Bunuel, is currently available to watch in full on YouTube : To those who have viewed Western documentaries about North Korea before it probably seems like pretty-standard stuff. So far the best interpretation of this news comes from Max Fisher at the Washington Post , who points out that the film features a visit to one of three Catholic churches in Pyongyang around the 18-minute mark. Bae is known to be a Christian, and North Korea has accused him of being a missionary with the evangelical Youth With a Mission (YWAM) group. Right now t

This week’s Benghazi hearing is shaping up to be a disaster for the Obama Administration. The whistleblowers who have come forward are now completely in the open, identified by Fox News as three State Department officials , and their testimonies could offer some long-awaiting insight on the security failures that led up to the terrorist attack, the lack of a military response, and the subsequent cover-up that transpired in its aftermath. On Sunday, Face the Nation , which hosted House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA), whose committee has investigated Benghazi, offered a preview of what we can expect to hear from Greg Hicks , one of the whistlerblowers, in regard to the post-Benghazi narrative and much more: Everybody in the mission” in Benghazi, Libya, thought the attack on a U.S. consulate there last Sept. 11 was an act of terror “from the get-go,” according to excerpts of an interview investigators conducted with the No. 2 official in Libya at the time, obtained by CBS News’ “Face the Nation.” “I think everybody in the mission thought it was a terrorist attack from the beginning,” Greg Hicks, a 22-year foreign service diplomat who was the highest-ranking U.S. official in Libya after the strike, told investigators under authority of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Hicks, the former U.S. Embassy Tripoli deputy chief of mission, was not in Benghazi at the time of the attack, which killed Chris

Google on Monday announced it is has had enough of downloadable software taking advantage of its advertising ecosystem. As such, the company is once again hardening its rules to prevent abuse, after noting that it found 17 percent fewer bad actors in 2012 than in the previous year thanks to increased enforcement and tightened policies. On the other hand, Google says in the last 90 days it has seen over 100,000 complaints about software that changed users’ browser settings or about toolbars that they couldn’t uninstall. The company is fighting back. These aren’t small requirements either. Google has updated its advertising policies and enforcement stating that software accessing its services must: Be pre-approved by Google. Offer one-click, complete uninstall. Provide clear, full disclosure and transparency to people about what is being installed and what changes are being made to their devices. Install itself on only one browser per download. Be bundled with and distributed by only reputable parties who comply with our policies. Google says it has seen increased reports about all types of annoying software. If you’re the tech guru in your family, you’ve definitely seen software that: unexpectedly changes the default browser, search engine, or homepage; clutters up the browser and screen or interferes with the web browsing experience (such as by inserting ads); makes it very difficult to remove downloaded software or restore defau

Google's Chrome Security team has taking the wraps of its its latest Pwnium competition . This time out, the target is Chrome OS on a Samsung Series 5 550 , and as ever, the company's putting its money (and nerd cred) where its mouth is, offering up a $ Pi million in rewards (that's a lofty $ 3.14159 million) for the third round of the competition. Amongst the payouts are $ 110,000 for a "browser or system level compromise in guest mode or as a logged-in user, delivered via a web page" and $ 150,000 for a "compromise with device persistence — guest to guest with interim reboot, delivered via a web page."
