Mitt Romney appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. On Friday, Leno asked Romney whether he believes he might have beaten Obama in the November election if the initial narrative from the administration on the motive behind the attacks had been attributed to terrorism instead of a protest. “I don’t think it would have changed the election,” said Romney. Romney added that he doesn’t spend a lot of time reflecting on what could have been done differently during his campaign, although he said he wishes the outcome had been different. “I don’t go back and look at: ‘Gee, if this would have happened differently, could I have won?’” Romney said. “I wish I had won. I wish I was there now.”

The subtext of the official state view and media coverage coming out of Boston over the last week carried a crucial message to the American public: It was a vindication of the Counter-Terrorism Surveillance State and its massive expenditures and the associated erosion of American constitutional liberties. To that end, the several days since the bombing of the Boston Marathon showcased a mesmerizing display of reality television mediated by the unquestioning officiousness of the fourth estate. On vivid display was “proof through performance,” a validation that the laws passed and massive expenditures incurred over the last decade were essential to the state’s “ protection of the public .” Continue Reading…

In a development likely to confuse and dishearten Brad Paisley and anyone else who just had a vague, hard-to-explain feeling that Barack Obama would have a special sympathetic connection to members of the hip-hop community, the President has thrown Jay-Z under the bus, just four short years after calling Kanye West a “jackass,” a charge he repeated in 2011 . Yesterday morning, the President appeared on The Today Show and confirmed what his press secretary, Jay Carney, told reporters last week: That Jay-Z and Beyoncé did not have official White House clearance for their recent trip to Cuba . “This is not something the White House was involved with,” the President told interviewer Savannah Guthrie, adding, as is for clarification, “We’ve got better things to do.” After the pair were roasted for the trip by conservative commentators who plainly did not have better things to do, Jay-Z released his official response … Read more
