AWD NO MORE YANK-EE MY WANKEE! AWD will be the first to admit that I know nada about Chinese people except I’d rather they stay in China and stop swerving in my lane in Dallas. I knew there was a reason those people were forced to ride bicycles for millions of years. I’ve never understood what it is Chinese people find so attractive about wearing white socks with black shoes….at the swimming pool. Or munching on sweet and sour cat. Or why they have 15 minute Kung Fu fights and never seem to hit their opponent. Or why they seem to love running their mini-vans into other cars every day on the @#&* Dallas Central Expressway! One thing is for sure is the leaders in their communist, overpowering government like to impose their communist will on the people while leaving the proletariat poor and overworked. Hey, this could be a post on Obama! It can’t be too much fun being Chinese when a billion or so of your fellow Wangs look exactly like you. Eating with chopsticks, wearing those funky bath robes for clothes with white socks and speaking that infernal yang language, it’s easier to be a pillow biter in Iran than a Chinese person in China! There is no porn allowed in China. It’s against the law. But apparently porn is sold everywhere. Hotels, street corners, police stations. So the Chinese police confiscate it and turn it over to government porn censors…when they are finished with it. In Hunan, there is a special group of censors whose

Apple in Talks to Acquire Home Automation Firm R2 Studios

Source: forums.macrumors.com – Thursday, December 20, 2012
Apple, Microsoft and Google are all potential buyers for home automation firm R2 Studios , part of the id8 Group founded by Blake Krikorian, according to the Wall Street Journal . He was the founder of Sling Media, makers of the SlingBox that was later sold to EchoStar/Dish Network. R2 Studios sole public product is an Android client for Crestron whole-home control systems. Crestron released its own clients for the iPhone and iPad several years ago. Quote: R2 Studios, which is developing home-media and automation technology, has remained largely mum about its plans but last year released an app that turns Android phones into touch panels for controlling heating and lighting systems wirelessly. R2 Studios also holds some patents related to controlling electronic devices and interfaces. The status of the discussion and terms under consideration remain unclear. A deal may not happen and some talks may be preliminary. The WSJ reports that R2 also owns some patents related to "controlling electronic devices and interfaces", in addition to its existing app work. R2 could fit in nicely with Apple's rumored expansion plans, including its efforts to remake television viewing. The market for home automation has been seeing a lot of activity recently, with former Apple executive Tony Fadell's company releasing the Nest thermostat last year. AT&T has announced plans to get into the home automation market as well. Article Link: Apple in Talks
CEO Of Massive US Defense Firm Scoffs At The ‘Fiscal Cliff’

The fiscal what? Cliff? How about the fiscal "speed bump." The CEO of the fourth largest U.S. defense firm, Raytheon (5th largest in the world), Bill Swanson "is telling investors sequestration would be a 'speed bump,' not a 'guillotine,'" according to Politico . From the Politico report: "Literally, you'll go into it slow, go over the top of it, and then you come out of it as quick as you possibly can," Swanson said. "It's not a guillotine." The market would be able to recover, he said. For example, Raytheon would look to its foreign military sales, which make up more than 25 percent of its business, to help fill in shortfalls in orders or production, he said. None of those sales would be affected by sequestration, he added. Raytheon has substantial foreign contracts, one most recently with Israel to improve upon the lauded Iron Dome — Israel just contracted Raytheon for a "Next Generation" missile defense system, an Iron Dome 2, for lack of better terminology. The $ 25 billion company also put the finishing touches on a new missile factory about a week ago. Separately, other defense firms, like Lockheed Martin , are slowly coming around to the idea of adapting to impending defense cuts. Martin, the company responsible for the controversial F-35 program, has begun insisting the program is safe, despite varying reports . The "Fiscal Cliff" involves around $ 500 billion in mandatory defense cuts if Congress can't reach a deal to

Obama Senior Advisor Accepted $100,000 From Firm Doung Business With Iran

We all remember the Iranian uprising in June of 2009, or what became known as the Green Revolution. This was the one citizen uprising in the Middle East President Obama did absolutely nothing to encourage or protect. As the president sat on his hands and voted "present," we all watched as an opportunity to overthrow the Iranian Mullahocracy slipped away. What might have been the first and most vital moment in the so-called "Arab Spring," what might have been our best chance at ending Iran's nuclear program without an all-out war in the area, was allowed to wither and be massacred. The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and Libya, however, would receive all kinds of support from this very same White House. The point of this is to be clear on what David Ploueffe knew in December of 2010 when he accepted a speaking fee from a subsidiary group of MTN Group, what The Washington Post describes as "an affiliate of a company doing business with Iran’s government." Quite laughably, in its headline, the Post also describes Plouffe as a "Obama associate," which would be like describing Michelle Obama as a "Obama relative." Plouffe was Obama's campaign manager in 2008 and just a month after making these speeches, this "associate" returned to the White House as a top member of the President's tight inner-circle with an office just a few feet from the Oval Office. Though Plouffe himself wouldn’t comment on the matter, the White House did and their ke

Apple’s developer evangelist Michael Jurewitz has left Apple for a job at software firm Black Pixel , he has announced on his personal blog . He will be joining the firm as a partner in a directorial position. As a well-respected and outspoken member of Apple’s developer liaison team, Jury has been a major focal point of Apple’s efforts to maintain relationships with the huge and vibrant developer community that sustains its App Stores. As a vocal presence on Twitter ”Jury” has acted as a go-between the immense developer community and an Apple not exactly known for its transparency. As a proponent of keeping bug reporting and squashing efforts focused, Jury’s rallying cry on Twitter became “have you filed a Radar?” This was succinctly summed up by developer Steve Streza in this graphic: He is also a fan of photography, as can be seen in the header image for this article, which shows Jurewitz running down the up elevator at Apple’s recent World Wide Developer’s Conference with camera in hand in order to get a shot of the crowd of waiting developers below. Jurewitz explains that he took great pleasure in his time at Apple: For the past seven years I have worked in Apple’s Worldwide Developer Relations team helping OS X and iOS developers build the best apps in the world. Working closely with many of you in the developer community has been the highlight of my career. I have loved every minute of helping to answer your technical ques

Japanese mobile social gaming company DeNA has increased its visibility on mobile devices in China after it announced a partnership with Renren that will see its titles included in the social network’s Android app. A dedicated section has been created for DeNA’s Mobage platform within the Renren app. The new addition allows Android owners to access and play any of the near-40 titles that DeNA offers in China, simply by using their Renren details. Renren is China’s largest social network, with 137 million active monthly users, while Android dominates the country’s smartphone industry. Devices powered by the Google-owned platform accounted for two thirds of sales in the final quarter of 2011, according to research firm Analysys . The link-up with Renren follows a similar arrangement with microblogging site Sina Weibo , announced in March . That tie-up saw a unique Mobage website arrive on Sina’s popular domain, allowing Sina Weibo’ 300 million plus microbloggers to download a range of titles from Mobage direct to Android phones. China has been a key focus of DeNA’s overseas expansion plans, and the country was the first outside of Japan that the games specialist came to. Mobage for Android was introduced in July 2011, and followed by support for iOS in November 2011. DeNA introduced its iOS service to the US in March when it released its first Apple-compatible title, and it is focused on growing its presence in other international

Salesforce.com has finally confirmed that it has acquired social media marketing company Buddy Media for nearly $ 700 million in cash and shares ( $ 689 million to be exact ). That’s almost exactly how much Salesforce.com generated in sales in the first quarter of this year as a whole ( $ 695 million ). Early rumors about the purchase, published at the end of last month by AllThingsD , had pegged the price at more than $ 800 million. Founded in 2007, Buddy Media helps companies like HP, Mattel and Ford and 1,000 other companies maintain a presence on social networks like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+, as well as sites like YouTube and Google (search). The acquisition of the company is line with Salesforce.com’s recent moves into the realm of social (see Drew’s recent post about that) and its $ 326 million purchase of social media monitoring company Radian6 last year in particular. Other social Salesforce.com software products include Chatter , Rypple , Stypi and Jigsaw . The company says it will acquire Buddy Media for approximately $ 467 million in cash and $ 184 million in common stock, and $ 38 million in vested Salesforce.com options and restricted stock units. Salesforce.com says it expects to close the transaction in the fourth quarter of 2012 (or the end of its fiscal second quarter), and expects to increase revenues by roughly $ 20 million to $ 25 million in fiscal year 2013 as a result of the deal. Buddy Media had raised
