Gingrich: Republicans Will Oppose Any Immigration Plan Backed By Obama Because They Hate Obama

During an appearance on ABC’s This Week on Sunday, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) admitted that Republicans are likely to oppose any immigration reform proposal introduced by President Obama because they personally dislike the Commander-in-Chief. “An Obama plan led and driven by Obama in this atmosphere with the level of hostility towards the president and the way he goads the hostility I think is very hard to imagine that bill, that his bill is going to pass the House,” Gingrich said. “I think that negotiated with a Senate immigration bill that has to have bipartisan support could actually get to the president’s desk.” The Senate-backed framework for immigration reform, which enhances security on the border and includes a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, shares many similarities with Obama’s own proposal, though the president has repeatedly said that if Congress fails to make progress, he will introduce his own reform legislation. That plan, obtained by USA Today , “mirrors many provisions of the bipartisan 2007 bill” spearheaded by Ted Kennedy and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and would allow unauthorized immigrants “to become legal permanent residents within eight years.” “The plan also would provide for more security funding and require business owners to check the immigration status of new hires within four years,” the paper reports. Despite its bipartisan nature, the draft proposal was immediately panne

Heaven forbid we let common sense be a part of the whole “Gun Control” discussion. Newt Gingrich hits the nail on the head: “The President’s hometown, Chicago, is the murder capital of the United States. Over 500 people were killed there last year. Vice-President Biden doesn’t seem to want to go there. I’m trying to get the House Republicans to hold hearings there. It’s illegal to have all the guns that are killing people in Chicago. If gun control works, Chicago ought to be safe.” Yet, despite this obvious truth, not a single member of the White House Press Corps will ask Barack Obama about why Chicago is the murder capital of the U.S. if gun control works. On the Sunday talk show circuit, Newt Gingrich defended Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock of Indiana for his remarks about abortion and rape, referring to the controversy as "nonsense" and calling on President Obama's campaign to "get over it." "If you listen to what Mourdock actually said, he said what virtually every Catholic and every fundamentalist in the country believes, life begins at conception," Gingrich said on ABC's "This Week." "Now, this seems to be fixated by the Democrats, but the radical on abortion is Obama, who as a state senator voted three times in favor of allowing doctors to kill babies in the eighth and ninth month who were born, having survived late-term abortion." He was among several Romney surrogates to downplay the importance of Mourdock's remarks to the presidential race on Sunday. At a debate last Tuesday, Mourdock said, "I think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen." The day after, he stood by his opposition to abortion in the case of rape and incest, but clarified that he was merely trying to convey his belief that life is a gift from God. "If there was any interpretation other than what I intended, I really regret that," he said. Mitt Romney said he disagrees with Mourdock's comments. The Obama campaign has worked to tar Romney with the remarks, demanding that he drop his support for the Senate candidate. Gingrich cal

Gingrich Blasts ‘Radical’ Obama’s Drive to Illegally Gut Welfare Reform

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who was instrumental in passing welfare reform in the 1990s, blasted President Obama’s attempt to gut the law in a conference call on Wednesday. “Hard-core liberals like Barack Obama were deeply opposed to the bill,” Gingrich said, referring to the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act of 1996, which fundamentally altered a host of American welfare programs. Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services recently announced that it would grant waivers to states for the law’s work requirements, which required that recipients of Temporary Aid for Needy Families benefits be employed or preparing for employment in order to continue receiving benefits. As noted by Heritage’s Robert Rector, who broke the story , the law’s work requirements were explicitly exempted from HHS’s authority to waive requirements in various laws. But the administration has proceeded apace with its illegal circumvention of the law. Gingrich attributed the move to “an unending desire to create a dependent America” by appointees who “are even more radical” than the president himself. Gingrich specifically mentioned HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, who he also labeled “a radical.” “Most people agree today that this has been the most successful conservative reform in modern times,” Gingrich said of the welfare reform effort. Indeed, as Rector notes in a column for National Review, the American public overwhelmingly su

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich appeared on CNN’s The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer on Thursday where he was asked to describe what he believed were his biggest mistakes over the course of his nearly year-long presidential campaign. During the interview, Gingrich was forced to watch portions of an Obama campaign ad that features the Speaker’s attacks on presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney . RELATED: Newt Attitude: Gingrich Attacks Romney In Endorsement-Preempting Obama Campaign Ad “What was the biggest mistake you made,” Blitzer asked Gingrich. The Speaker replied that he wished he would have stuck to the themes he discussed in his 23-minute long campaign suspension speech on Wednesday and ignoring the “day-to-day political infighting.” “The more visionary I was, the better we were doing,” said Gingrich. Blitzer brought up the Greek cruise that the Gingrich campaign shortly after announcing his campaign, which the Speaker thought was “blown out of proportion.” “I made a mistake in bringing in traditional consultants,” said Gingrich. “People who wanted to focus on running 30-second campaign ads and raising money.” Gingrich said he wanted to run a campaign based on “big solutions” but found it more difficult to run that campaign than he had expected. Blitzer then played portions of a nearly 90-second Obama campaign web ad which features a litany of attacks that Gingrich made against Romney over the cause o
