Oxbow and Gary Stevens ensured the Triple Crown drought will continue at least one more year. Oxbow won the 138th running of the Preakness Stakes under overcast skies at Pimlico Race Course. Topping a field of nine 3-year-old horses, Oxbow won the 1 3/16-mile race in dominating fashion. After a thrilling come-from-behind win in the Kentucky Derby , Orb arrived in Baltimore as the Preakness favorite. Even after drawing the rail position for the Preakness, trainer Shug McGaughey's horse remained the favorite and went off at 3-5. Oxbow went off at 15-1 but took the early lead out of gate No. 6 and never relinquished it. Oxbow finished in 1:57.54. I came back and breezed him on Monday and what you see right now is exactly how he acted in his workout out. We went just a nice, easy workout. His mind was right," Stevens, a Hall of Fame jockey who came out of retirement earlier this year, told NBC's on-horse reporter Donna Brothers after the race. "We came in here with a lot of confidence. Then we hit the half-mile pole, I told myself, 'Are you kidding me? Is this happening?' The race was over." Despite the backing of the bettors, Orb never truly contended and finished fourth. Itsmyluckyday came second , with Mylute finishing third. The loss for Orb means that horse racing fans will need to wait at least

Source: www.towleroad.com – Sunday, April 14, 2013 So this happened : The 19-year-old is due to perform tonight in Arnhem, around an hour from Amsterdam, where the Anne Frank House is situated, and visited the museum on Saturday night. Staff from the museum wrote on their Facebook page : “Yesterday night Justin Bieber visited the Anne Frank House, together with his friends and guards. “Fans were waiting outside to see a glimpse of him. He stayed more than an hour in the museum. “In our guestbook he wrote: ‘Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber.’” A ‘belieber’ is the name given to the singer’s fans.

Posted on ANDPOP : Yes, you read that correctly. While in the the Netherlands Friday night, the Biebs took a break from his tour to visit the Anne Frank House. After staying for over an hour, he left this heartfelt message in the guestbook: “Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber.” The Anne Frank House then posted his message along with some other details about his visit on their Facebook page (as they have done with messages from other celebrities in the past) and it wasn’t long before people began criticizing the 19-year-old’s choice of words. I do think it’s a little bizarre that the first thing he thought of when pondering the details Anne Frank’s life was whether or not she would be a fan of his music, but after all, he did build his career on the dedication of young fans, so the comment was probably just a way of personalizing his message. Maybe not the most appropriate way to do so, but let’s face it, we’re talking about Justin Bieber. “Appropriate” no longer applies. And if she were living in the context of our times, I’m sure Anne would have at least loved “Beauty and a Beat.” Who doesn’t? Read more at ANDPOP . ANDPOP – We find the best of the internet

Facebook hopes to lure Instagram, Snapchat users with prettier redesign

Facebook is focusing on feeds, including one for photos and one for brands. At a press conference held in Menlo Park Thursday Facebook announced a redesign for the news feed its users see when they visit its site or use its mobile app. The new news feed focuses on reducing clutter, making visually oriented posts like photos more prominent. It also makes filters for types of content front and center, such as dedicated feeds for posts by friends or posts by pages. Facebook will borrow the menu format it uses on its current mobile app, which slides out from one side to allow users to navigate. Facebook asserts that this will decrease clutter on the webpage and allow users to focus on content in the news feed. The separate feed categories (Photos, Friends, Following) will reorganize themselves based on which one users view most. A consistent menu across Facebook's apps and Web interface. The Following feed, which contains posts from pages, will show “every one of the posts they make,” stated Chris Struhar, the tech lead of feeds. The prominence of this feed seems to be an attempt to quell the protests of brands that have pushed back against Facebook’s pay-to-promote posts feature. Some brands have accused Facebook of purposefully damping traffic to generate revenue this way. Read 6 remaining paragraphs | Comments

Treasury Won’t Sell GM Stock, Hopes For Pick-Up

Throwing investment advice of eminent experts such as the LA Times editorial board and former GM CEO Ed Whitacre in the wind, the Treasury will not sell its holdings in GM as recommended, but hold on to the stock. Why? For the same reasons that prompt smaller scale investors to hold on: The Treasury “expects the stock to rise in the future due to a roll-out of several new vehicles,” people familiar with Treasury’s thinking told Reuters. The chorus that urged the Treasury to unload GM at a $ 16 billion loss begun a week ago and grew louder by the day. According to a Wall Street Journal report, GM execs want higher salaries and their corporate jets back, which won’t happen as long as Uncle Sam is breathing down their necks. Says Reuters: “One major factor analysts cite that could boost GM shares early next year is the planned rollout of highly profitable large trucks. “ The new trucks generate a profit of $ 12,000 to $ 14,000 per vehicle according to analysts. While the Volt won’t save the planet just yet, gas-gobbling BOF Silverados might save the Treasury from a major loss.

The Houston Texans are in Detroit on Thanksgiving for the Lions' traditional holiday game. The Dallas Cowboys aren't the only Texas team with the Thanksgiving spotlight this year, as the AFC-best Houston Texans are on the road to face the Detroit Lions ' in their traditional early holiday game on Thursday. The Lions (4-6) can't afford anymore losses and find themselves with fewer and fewer chances to stay afloat in the NFC playoff race, especially following a heartbreaking 24-20 loss to the NFC North rival Green Bay Packers this past weekend. The schedule is going to make it tough to find five or six more wins, with another date against the Packers looming following games against Houston and Indianapolis. The Lions then face the Cardinals , Falcons and Bears to close the year. A win over Houston on the national-holiday stage could go a long way in boosting the Lions' hopes, but it won't be easy. The Texans (9-1) are the class of the AFC and are playing for home-field advantage. They're coming off a tougher-than-expected overtime win over the Jacksonville Jaguars . Thursday's game is the first of three straight road games for Houston. Game Date/Time Thursday, Nov. 22, 12:30 p.m. ET Location Ford Field, Detroit, Mich.
