Source: www.pbs.org – Thursday, May 23, 2013 Watch a live stream in the player above of President Barack Obama's speech at the National Defense University, scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. EDT Thursday. WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is set to at least partially lift the veil of secrecy surrounding U.S.-directed drone strikes around the world, a key component of counterterrorism strategy, as he outlines the contours of the continuing threat to American security. On the eve of the president's speech at the National Defense University, the Obama administration revealed for the first time that a fourth American citizen had been killed in secretive drone strikes abroad. The killings of three other Americans in counterterror operations since 2009 were widely known before a letter from Attorney General Eric Holder to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy acknowledged the four deaths. Obama's speech is expected to reaffirm his national security priorities – from homegrown terrorists to killer drones to the enemy combatants held at the military-run detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba – but make no new sweeping policy announcements. The White House has offered few clues on how the president will address questions that have dogged his administration for years and, critics say, given foreign allies mixed signals about U.S. intentions in some of the world's most volatile areas. Obama will try to refocus an increasingly apathetic public on security issues as h

BB Live: BlackBerry Q5 launched as BlackBerry 10 becomes affordable

Source: www.techradar.com – Tuesday, May 14, 2013 The BlackBerry Q5 has been officially announced at the Canadian firm's annual Live conference in Orlando after numerous leaks and rumours, promising to bring BlackBerry 10 in at a more affordable price point. Eyebrows were raised when BlackBerry's first two handsets to sport the new BB10 OS, the Z10 and Q10 , both carried premium price tags, but initial fears seem to have been laid to rest with the arrival of the Q5. Sporting the firms trademark QWERTY keyboard the noticeably plastic BlackBerry Q5 has been given the isolated buttons found on the firm's later Curve range of handsets, marking it out as a cheaper option. Update: In terms of specs it's still pretty sketchy, but what we do know is the BlackBerry Q5 will sport a 3.1-inch display – the same as found on the Q10. We'll find out the rest of the details soon. Young people are the future The BlackBerry Q5 could be the handset which sees BB10 get into the hands of the masses as it will look to capitalise on the youth market which were so receptive of the low cost, BBM-enabled Curve range. At the moment there's no word on the BlackBerry Q5 release date or price, but it will start rolling out to select markets with a focus on emgerging markets this summer. We'll be getting our mitts on the new budget BlackBerry soon, so keep an eye out for our hands-on BlackBerry Q5 review. More to follow…

Benghazi Attack House Hearing Redux: Live Webcast

Following the latest set of revelations on the Benghazi embassy attack, the House is back to doing what it does best: pontificating, pointing fingers, and talking, and making a TV spectacle of it all. As the Hill notes, "New revelations about the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, are pulling Hillary Clinton back into a political firestorm that the presumptive 2016 candidate had so far managed to escape unscathed. House Republicans have unearthed new evidence suggesting the Obama administration could have done more to help the U.S. diplomats under attack last Sept. 11. State Department whistle-blowers testifying Wednesday before the House Oversight panel are also expected to say the then-secretary of State was personally involved in the decision to depict the attack that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans as something other than terrorism." Sadly, Hillary will not be there to vehemently ask, rhetorically of course, of anyone interested in the failings in US foreign policy, " what difference does it make? " Live webcast below.
