Apple made two big product timing announcements in the last two days. On last night's earnings call, Tim Cook said new products aren't coming until the fall of this year . This morning, the company announced WWDC , the developer conference where it previews the upcoming versions of iPhone and Mac software, will happen June 10. The last time Apple executives were on stage talking about new products was October 23, 2012 . This means Apple is going to spend eight months, or 230 days, between on stage product announcements. This is a big gap, relative to its recent release pattern, as you can see in the chart we have in this post. There's a few ways to think about this product gap. From a purely financial standpoint, it's not good. Apple will have nothing new to goose its sales and profits. It gives rivals eight months to introduce new products that can sap at Apple's core business. That's why it forecasted a midpoint revenue guidance of $ 34.5 billion for the June 2013 quarter, which is a 1% drop on a year-over-year basis. It also guided to EPS of $ 7 for the quarter, a 25% decline. From a product standpoint, it suggests Apple is working on some big, new stuff. Otherwise, why the delay? If Apple is really going to release just an iPhone 5S, then why not put it out sooner? Either way, this gap is unusual, and it can create some anxiety for shareholders. Tim Cook is not a visionary with a proven track record of leading, developing, and

GE’s Barista Bots are exactly what SXSW needs: coffee printing robotic arms

The best way to get the attention of a bunch of sleep-deprived, possibly hungover SXSW Interactive attendees? Coffee-slinging robotic arms, naturally. GE's fully embracing Austin's caffeinated food trick culture with a pair of Barista Bots, arms that operate similarly to your standard 3D printer, moving along the X, Y, Z axes to extrude coffee through a syringe, atop of a latte's foam. The process starts when one of the robot's human barista counterparts takes a shot of an image with a webcam, digitizing it on a nearby computer. Then the arm goes to work. It's an imperfect science, of course. For one thing, foam is a really difficult canvas to work on, what with all the unevenness of constantly popping bubbles. There's also an awful lot of wind in Austin today, and with all those people inside, the van did a little bit of rocking. We saw some more complex images that didn't come out particularly well (facial scans, for one thing), so we decided to throw something a simpler at the 'bot, drawing our "e" logo on a sheet of paper. Robert Reich: Obama needs to batter GOP over the head for blocking jobs bill

Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich said Monday that President Barack Obama needed to focus on creating jobs and strengthening the middle-class in his State of the Union address. He noted on Current TV that the unemployment rate was still relatively high and wages had declined. Reich said many Americans had “almost no economic security at all” and that Obama should “pivot around jobs.” When it came to Republican obstruction, the University of California professor advised Obama to “batter them over the heads” for blocking his jobs bill. “Framing the issue is very important around jobs and the economy,” Reich said. “But coming up with specific programs that the Republicans will agree to seems to me almost impossible in this environment.” Watch video, courtesy of Current TV, below:

Filed under: Advertising , Food & Beverage , Sports If there's one thing about the Super Bowl that's truly predictable, it's the presence of Anheuser-Busch InBev . The beer giant's flagship brand, Bud Light, will run not one but two 60-second ads during the big game, and it's also transformed a New Orleans hotel into "Bud Light Hotel." Meanwhile, fellow AB brand Budweiser will also make its usual appearance: It will run a 60-second ad depicting a newborn Clydesdale horse , and the company is currently asking social media users to help name the… Who Needs a Super Bowl Ad to Sell Beer? Byron York Rep. Paul Ryan, the House Budget Committeee chairman and defeated vice presidential candidate, has made his most extensive statement yet on the consequences of the Romney/Ryan loss to President Obama and what it means for Republicans in the next few years. Speaking to a gathering sponsored by the National Review Institute in Washington, Ryan said Republicans must reconcile themselves to the president’s victory. That means sometimes opposing Obama on fundamental issues, and sometimes working with him. “Sometimes, we’ll have to reject the president’s proposals,” Ryan said. “And sometimes, we’ll have to make them better.” The key to choosing when to fight and when to compromise, Ryan said, is a sense of “prudence.” “The president will bait us,” Ryan said. “But we can’t get rattled. We won’t play the villain in his morality plays. We have to stay united.” For example, Ryan says when it comes to entitlement reform and Obamacare, Obama will forever fight Republican efforts. Slideshow: Lance Armstrong’s controversial career Joel Saget / AFP – Getty Images The cyclist's historic run of Tour de France championships made headlines, as did his fall from grace after being stripped of the titles in 2012. Launch slideshow By Tracy Connor, Staff Writer, NBC News Viewers who tune into Oprah Winfrey's interview with Lance Armstrong on Thursday will expect to see the disgraced cyclist offer some sort of admission to doping. Follow @NBCNewsUS One can only imagine he'll talk about the incredible stress of such a demanding sport. He might suggest that his Tour de France wins still have some legitimacy since many competitors were also taking performance-enhancing drugs. If he really wants to make a play for sympathy, he could dwell on how much his cancer charity Livestrong has suffered . But after a decade of indignant denials — and legal threats and actions against his detractors — that's not going to satisfy many of Armstrong's former fans. Here's what they'll really want to hear from the athlete, who promised to answer all of Winfrey's questions "honestly" before Monday's sitdown. 1. Did Armstrong dope before he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1996? If so, did he tell his doctors? Betsy Andreu, the wife of a former teammate, testified in 2006 that she heard Armstrong admit to his doctors that he had used human growth hormone, steroids, and other chemicals. He denied it and tried to discredit Abreu by c
Former Texas GOP Head: ‘Marxist’ Obama Needs Teleprompter ‘Because He Fried His Brain On Drugs’

During a presentation last month before a grassroots conservative meeting in Texas, former TX GOP chairwoman Cathie Adams offered up a rather strong-worded assessment of President Obama ‘s oratory skills, claiming that he is a “Marxist” who heavily relies on a teleprompter because he “fried his brains on drugs.” “Who is a Marxist in our White House?” she asked the audience. “Of course, it’s Barack Hussein Obama. And I don’t know why we’re not calling him what he is as a Marxist. It’s as if when the wall fell that communism died — it didn’t. Today, it is green on the outside and red on the inside. It is as red as ever and Barack Obama is implementing his green agenda, which is Marxism.” Repeatedly referring to the president by his full name “Barack Hussein Obama” — his full name, indeed, but typically used in a derogatory sense — Adams said that she was offended by his “narcissistic” behavior at the presidential debates, so much so that she “wanted to go up and just smack his face.” Adams, who served as Texas’s GOP chairwoman between 2009 and 2010, decried the Colorado marijuana legalization initiative as part of Obama’s anti-American plans, and attempted to link the pot law to how she believes the president fried his brain on drugs like pot: “And folks we’ve got to be very careful about saying ‘well, that’s not for me but you can do whatever you want.’ Folks, we have a rule of law, we have a Constitution and those things must be

Lindsey Graham says Obama needs to ‘man up’ on Medicare cuts

“Man up.” Run with that. Sometimes the jokes just tell themselves…from the closet. Think Progress : Appearing on Fox News, Graham put forward an argument that is quickly becoming Republican conventional wisdom: Obama has leverage when it comes to raising tax rates, but once Republicans agree to some sort of a deal, the power will shift to the GOP. GRAHAM: In February or March you have to raise the debt ceiling. And I can tell you this, there is a hardening on the Republican side. We’re not going to raise the debt ceiling. We’re not going to let Obama borrow any more money or any American Congress borrow any more money until we fix this country from becoming Greece. That requires significant entitlement reform to save Social Security from bankruptcy and Medicare from bankruptcy. Social Security is going bankrupt in about 20, 25 years. Medicare is going bankrupt in 15 or 20 years. [...] Yes, we will play that game, Mr. President, because it’s not a game. The game you’re playing is small ball. You’re talking about raising rates on the top 2% that would run the government for 11 days. You just got reelected. How about doing something big that is not liberal? How about doing something big that really is bipartisan? Every big idea he has is a liberal idea that drowns us in debt. How about maning up here, Mr. President and use your mandate to bring this country together to stop us from becoming Greece.
