President Barack Obama stated yesterday that Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has stayed in his position “longer than he [Bernanke] wanted”. Some will be probably agreeing with Bernanke (and Obama) more than he might have expected after having said that. Although he should have stopped short of adding (for fear of hurting Helicopter Ben’s feelings?) that he has done an “outstanding job”. If it were that outstanding, he wouldn’t want to go, would he? Love you and leave you? I’ve had a party with you guys and now I have to go? But where? But Bernanke is a man of resourcefulness. This is the guy that was hailed personality of the year back in 2009 byTime magazine. The article even mentioned that he had ‘saved the US’ from the disaster of the financial crisis. That’s an accolade, isn’t it just! Saved the US! Bernanke was appointed by George W. Bush to the head of the Federal Reserve in 2006. But, people should have seen it coming all this quantitative easing and the print presses rolling off shiny bright new greenbacks as they fluttered down from the sky like manna from heaven when Bernanke gave his famous speech on November 21st 2002 referring to Milton Friedman and throwing money at the people like pieces of meat to lions in a cage. Once heralded as the anti-George Bush… now he's on the defensive over U.S. policies, including some he's kept in place from the Bush era." Your tax dollars at work… A hidden camera catches wireless company employees passing out ‘Obama phones’ to people who say they’ll SELL them for drugs, shoes, handbags and spending cash. Via the Daily Mail and Project Veritas : The ‘Lifeline’ free-cell-phone scheme cost $ 2.2 BILLION last year alone, all of it from fees added to the phone bills of paying customers. The Daily Mail reported: Undercover video shot in May by a conservative activist shows two corporate distributors of free cell phones handing out the mobile devices to people who have promised to sell them for drug money, to buy shoes and handbags, to pay off their bills, or just for extra spending cash. The ‘Obama phone,’ which made its ignominious YouTube debut outside a Cleveland, Ohio presidential campaign event last September, is a project of the Federal Communications Commission’s ‘Lifeline’ program, which makes land line and mobile phones available to Americans who meet low-income requirements. Lifeline was a $ 2.19 billion program in 2012.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Barack Obama say their “opinions do not coincide” on the bloody Syrian civil war but they’ve agreed to “push” the Assad regime and opposition forces back to the negotiation table for peace talks. Putin and Obama emerged late Monday from a two-hour bilateral meeting at the G8 summit in Northern Ireland to announce they still don’t see eye-to-eye on the Syrian conflict, but they’re both committed to reducing escalating violence and use of chemical weapons. “Of course, our opinions do not coincide, but all of us have the intention to stop the violence in Syria and to stop the growth of victims and to solve the situation peacefully, including by bringing the parties to the negotiating table in Geneva. NPR is reporting that sources have told them that President Obama is considering declassifying the court order that gives the National Security Agency the authority to collect the phone record information of millions of American citizens. The document, known as a "primary order," complements a shorter Foreign Intelligence Surveillance court document leaked to The Guardian newspaper earlier this month. That document revealed the U.S. government had been asking Verizon Business Network Services Inc. to turn over, on a daily basis, phone call records for its subscribers, for 90 days. [...] The still-secret primary order provides more information about the program, spells out specific limits on government authority and includes safeguards to protect the privacy of U.S. citizens, a senior administration official said. Release of this order would explain specific constraints on the surveillance program, as well as the safeguards in place to protect U.S. citizens' rights and privacy. This is the kind of transparency organizations like the ACLU and the Electronic Frontier Foundation have been suing the government for, and what senators Mark Udall, Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley have been pushing for. If the government has nothing to hide in terms of the lengths it goes to to protect civil liberties, then declassification of the document that spells out how it does so shouldn't be a problem.
