In the social media age, it has become a tedious ritual to track the tasteless things that people often tweet during unfolding tragedies, and to take tiny-minded satisfaction in shaming them. The devastating tornadoes in Oklahoma are no exception. Comedian and Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead used the tornado to lampoon the current scandal-mania in a series of jokes, then apologized for it. Fox News contributor and Redstate.com editor Erick Erickson offered a tweet that was a mirror image of one of Winstead’s jokes, and has not apologized. Lizz began with a now-deleted tweet referencing the current IRS controversy, sent, as she later noted , before she knew of the storm’s devastating, still-unfolding toll. “This tornado is in Oklahoma so clearly it has been ordered to only target conservatives,” she tweeted . She also joked about the tornado bumping her from a guest spot on MSNBC’s Martin Bashir show, before apologizing about an hour and a half later. “Made a political joke, Twas before devastation revealed. In hindsight, had I understood, I would have refrained. Beyond sorry. # LetMeHaveIt ,” she tweeted, adding “Worse thing is I am from MN! I know this!! Bad joke. Bad Timing. Just bad.” To those trying to downplay her transgression, Lizz tweeted “No, it’s worth giving me shit. I was an idiot.” One of her jokes, however, turned out to be oddly prescient. Jay Leno opened a very political Friday edition of The Tonight Show with a funny monologue going after President Obama at the expense of Fox News. “Let me tell you how bad it’s gotten…Fox News has changed it’s slogan from ‘Fair and Balanced’ to ‘See, I Told You So.’” Leno started out by calling it casual Friday, so casual in the White House that “they’re casually going through everyones phone calls and records.” He then poked fun at Obama firing his acting IRS commissioner, for acting like “Richard Nixon’s IRS commissioner.” He continued lightly digging at Obama, suggesting he is a new type of Democrat, involved in three scandals, but “not one of them involves sex…that has never happened before.” Leno joked the week has been so bad before, Obama called Mitt Romney, saying: “This morning, he called Mitt Romney and said, ‘Look if you still want the job…” Watch the monologue courtesy of The Tonight Show: Follow Jordan Chariton ( @JordanChariton ) on Twitter h/t

Chris Crane, president of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers union, spoke to Mark Levin on The Mark Levin Show Thursday evening. Crane recently testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding the immigration bill working through Congress. Crane is also suing his own bosses at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in a landmark case, Crane v. Napolitano , to try and halt the Administration’s orders to ICE agents to stop enforcement of Federal immigration laws. On April 24, Crane – who represents 7,200 agents nationwide – won a stunning initial court victory in his lawsuit against the Obama Administration. As SWA reported at the time, Federal Judge Federal Judge Reed O’Connor told DHS that they had no power to refuse to deport illegal aliens, and that he was likely to strike down Obama’s virtual “DACA” amnesty for millions of illegal aliens. The ruling shocked the Washington establishment, and Crane’s lawsuit ( you can donate here ) could derail Obama’s four-year effort to undermine immigration enforcement nationwide. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas expected to see an African-American president in his lifetime — as long as the candidate abided by standards for blacks that are prescribed by “elites and the media,” he said in little-noticed remarks last month. And he suggested that Barack Obama fits the mold. “I always knew that it would have to be a black president who was approved by the elites and the media,” Thomas said last month at Duquesne Law School in remarks posted to YouTube Friday. “Any black person who says something that is not the prescribed things that they expect from a black person will be picked apart,” the justice said. “Pick anyone who’s decided not to go along with it — there’s a price to pay. So I always assumed it would be somebody that the media had to agree with.” He didn’t elaborate on what those prescribed standards were. Thomas was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1991 by George H. W. Bush to replace Thurgood Marshall, the first ever African-American to serve on the court. A staunch originalist who unfailingly votes with conservatives on issues of race and diversity, Thomas has complained that his J.D. from Yale was tarnished due to the elite law school’s affirmative action program. He’s also been described by Supreme Court watchers as deeply distrustful of mainstream media after the Anita Hill scandal that marred his confirmation hearings.
