Samsung has a new ad for the Galaxy S4, its latest smartphone. It takes place at a graduation party where all the recent grads have Samsungs, and their parents have iPhones. (Not so subtle message: iPhones is for the oldsters.) The commercial manages to give real life examples of how Samsung's gimmicky software might actually be used. This part of Samsung's successful, years-long ad campaign to make its brand seem hip and make the iPhone seem old and dorky. (For what it's worth, I hung out with a non-techie friend last night who got the S4. She had no idea how to work any of these new software features like no-touch waving at the phone, or hovering over a message for a preview. I doubt she's going to be alone in this.) Whether you’re a Microsoft user or not, you have to respect the fact that its install base for operating systems is massive. The company spans plenty of sectors, specifically enterprise, but of course in the home, too. Today, the company announced that its latest operating system, Windows 8, has sold 60 million licenses . Finding out how many of these licenses are consumer and how many have been sold in bulk to vendors and enterprises would be a good thing. We’ve reached out to Microsoft for comment. Here’s what the Windows blog team did say about the milestone: At the 11th Annual J.P. Morgan Tech Forum at CES 2013 today, Windows Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Financial Officer Tami Reller announced that Windows 8 has sold 60 million licenses to date. This represents the cumulative sales of Windows 8 including both upgrades and sales to OEMs for new devices. This is a similar sales trajectory that we saw with Windows 7. We have seen a significant increase in the number of Windows 8 certified systems since general availability at the end of October. There are now more than 1,700 certified systems for Windows 8 and Windows RT. In addition the news of how many licenses have been sold, the team says that Microsoft is seeing “strong growth” in the developers building on top of the platform. The number of available apps has been quadrupled since launch. Also, Microsoft says that it has passed the 100M app download mark. Windows 8 ha

Former Iranian hostage Don Cooke , who was taken hostage at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran at age 23, told FOX News today that Barack Obama is showing the same ambivalent foreign policy as Jimmy Carter. “It really is a foreign policy failure.” FOX News Insider reported: On Happening Now today, Jenna Lee spoke with Don Cooke, who was taken hostage at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, exactly 33 years ago. Cooke was 24 at the time and one of four officers at the embassy when it was overrun by Islamic militants. Cooke described the 444-day hostage crisis and discussed the current state of affairs between the United States and Iran. Protesters took to the streets in Iran in recent days to mark the occasion, and denounce America. Cooke said the crisis started during a period – under President Jimmy Carter – of “ambivalent” foreign policy toward the Middle East. He said only after the election of Ronald Reagan did the Iranian government realize the U.S. was serious and release the hostages. “At this point, (Iran) sees ambivalence in the U.S. foreign policy and they don’t see any particular reason to stop (their nuclear program). … The sanctions are starting to bite, but I wish we had gone to these very punishing sanctions a bit earlier. Maybe we might see results by now,” Cooke said.

* Mitt Romney's said today that no one has ever asked for his birth certificate. Of course, Mitt Romney is a wealthy white man, from a wealthy white family. He went to expensive private schools. Romney has lived a privileged life and he has managed to always get what he wanted. Was Romney's comment his way to discredit and disrespect President Obama? Shame on Mitt Romney. This is just another reason to vote against Romney and Ryan. President Obama has already provided proof of his birth, but the birthers continue to disrespect Obama. >>> What interesting townhall meetings Paul Ryan has. He doesn't stop the racist comments from a man. This YouTube video shows how Paul Ryan treats women that speak out.
