It’s been reported today that The Voice coach Jessie J has banned the finalists on her team from going on Twitter, because she thinks their egos are “getting out of control” with their new-found fame. According to the Daily Star, Jessie has even unfollowed singers Sarah Cassidy, Matt Henry and Ash Morgan as she finds their tweeting “annoying!” Jessie told the paper, “I have said to the team don’t be obsessed with Twitter, I’ve even unfollowed some of them because it gets too much – it’s constant… “I want to say to them not to get too obsessed with it because it’s 10% of the world, it’s not real. “You have to focus on what’s in front of you and not get distracted.” As fans of the show will know, Jessie J saved Ash last night during this year’s first live show, and afterwards, she said, “This isn’t hard for me because I know I will be going to gigs for every one of these people on the stage. “The person I am taking through to the semi finals is Ash.” Of being saved to go through to the semi-finals, Ash said, “I feel on top of the world right now, it’s amazing.” Here’s a reminder of his performance last night… View the original post The Voice 2013: Jessie J has banned Sarah Cassidy, Matt Henry & Ash Morgan from going on Twitter because she thinks “their egos are getting out of control!” on Unreality TV
Brand-new voice calls Obama a failure

A columnist for a London-based Saudi daily newspaper is calling President Obama a failure and blaming his “hesitant” leadership for the catastrophic situation in Syria, where tens of thousands are dead as a result of the civil war. The report comes from the Middle East Media Research Institute, which monitors and reports on media in the Middle East. “The problem of U.S. President Barack Obama can be summed up in a single word: hesitation. The man is short-sighted, confused and diffident,” wrote Mashari al-Zaydi, a columnist for the daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat. MEMRI reported the column called Obama out as the weakest president in U.S. history and blamed him for allowing the crisis in Syria to escalate. He warned that Obama’s failures in the Middle East have set the foundation for an extremism and sectarian violence that will be greater than al-Qaida. MEMRI said it’s just the latest in a series of reports from Saudi press members who have attacked America on its Syrian position. The criticism has come since Secretary of State John Kerry met in Moscow with Russians to set a meeting date to talk about the situation in Syria. For example, the report said, the Saudi government daily Al-Yawm said, “The Syrian opposition did not welcome the outcome of the meetings that U.S. State Secretary John Kerry held in Moscow [on May 6, 2013], because [this outcome] is a clear American retreat towards the position of the Russian-Iranian alliance. Google’s ‘Star Trek Computer’ Voice Search: Hands On

Google engineers sometimes like to say the Star Trek computer is the ideal search engine. You can talk to it like it were a person, ask it anything, and it'll tell you the answer — verbally. During the keynote at Google I/O developer conference, the company demonstrated how it's bringing exactly that technology to the Chrome browser. Although the upgrade isn't available yet, Mashable got some hands-on time with it at the I/O. To be clear, Chrome already has voice search (that's what the little microphone is in the Google.com search box), but Google will soon be augmenting it with a new user experience that includes the ability to speak back to you. What Happens When Siri And Google Voice Talk To Each Other?

To put it mildly, it goes very wrong very fast: What happens when two of the most popular digital voices speak to each other? A whole lot of confusion, that’s what. Artist Michael Silber wanted to put both Siri and Google Voice to the test, so he had the two applications talk to each other and saw what happened. Here is the way he described his process: PROCESS 1. I recorded the audio of Siri reading a selection of text. 2. I placed a call to myself and played the Siri audio recording into my Google Voice voicemail. 3. I instructed Siri to read the new Google Voice transcription, including any errors and recorded a new audio clip. 4. I placed a call to myself and played the new Siri audio recording back into my Google Voice voicemail. Silber repeated the process 10 times for this video, and 50 times for another one. Here’s the video of the the experiment done ten times: And here it is at 50 times, by the time you get to the 40s there aren’t even coherent sentences being formed:

Among the announcements that T-Mobile made last month was its plan to deploy improved voice calling starting with the arrival of its iPhone 5 later this month. The technology, known as HD Voice, requires support from both the network and the devices on each end of the call. Speaking on Monday, AT&T senior VP Kris Rinne said that the carrier will roll-out its own support for the technology later t

Microsoft Shows Off Coming Improvements To Bing App’s Voice Search

Microsoft has shared video of what was a confidential, employee-only demonstration of new voice search capabilities in its Bing app for Windows Phones. The demo, reported by MSFTKitchen , shows a substantially faster and more accurate voice search experience that also performs better in noisy situations. In the demo, Bing’s new voice search system appears to respond about twice as fast as the existing system. The speed improvement gives Bing the ability to show search results while the user is still saying the search query. The Microsoft employee giving the demo says that the new system uses a faster backend that’s already being deployed for existing users, so some may already be saying better response times in voice search. The video doesn’t make it clear if these improvements will extend to Bing app users on Android and iOS devices, or just on Windows phones.

As fans of The Voice probably know, the show returns to the BBC on March 30th – which is apparently subject to change should needs be – with the live round set to air from June 8th. And today, the show’s Twitter page reads, “And so concludes the pre-recorded bits!” The evidently weary team added, “To our artists, you were amazing. To our coaches, you were amazing. “To our beds, you look amazing.” So the coaches, Jessie J, Sir Tom Jones, Will.i.am and Danny O’Donoghue have their teams picked out and with three artists apiece, they’re now preparing for the all important, and revamped, live shows. Soon after series one ended last year – in response to relatively poor viewer ratings – BBC controller Danny Cohen promised that the show’s second outing would feature more of what viewers liked, and less of what they weren’t so fond of. And according to Danny, that’s well underway already. He tweeted, “There’s loads of different changes, knockout stages, there’s parts where we can steal each other’s artists.” At the end of last year, Tom said, “I’m really looking forward to seeing and working with Jessie, Will and Danny on the second series of The Voice. “I’ve heard there will be some important changes that will make what is already a good, strong show even better.” Are you looking forward to the show’s return? For now, here’s a look back at last year’s series… View the original post The Voice 2013: Official Twitter account reports, “And

Google Glass Unveils Voice Control Interface, Public Availability

Google today revealed a little more about its highly anticipated Project Glass, as well as a way for non-developers to get their own headsets, in a new website and video campaign. The video, entitled “ How It Feels ,” shows Google’s Project Glass responding to voice commands that start with the phrase “ok glass.” In the video, users are seen using the “ok glass” command to perform Internet searches, take pictures, record videos, enter Google+ hangouts and get driving directions. While the video answers some questions, it raises many others. It hasn’t been confirmed if the previously rumored touch mouse will be missing from the Glass headset, but voice commands could conceivably replace all other forms of user input. At one part in the video, a user performs an image search for photos of Tiger Heads, but it’s not revealed how one might scroll through a large amount of image results. Additionally, Google will have numerous challenges to overcome when implementing voice control as the main form of interaction with the device. Factors such as Wi-Fi or cellular signal strength can play a role in voice recognition time, causing a delay in picture taking or video recording commands. The “How It Feels” video even shows a two-second delay between when a Project Glass user says, “OK Glass, take a picture” and when the image is captured. Voice commands may in fact prove to be more of a hindrance than a help to mainstream public adoption. Ap
