Top White House official Dan Pfeiffer on Face the Nation this morning said “It’s largely irrelevant” on whoever doctored the Benghazi memo. “You’re right. It’s an absolute tragedy what happened. The question isn’t ‘Who edited what talking points/’ That’s largely irrelevant.” Apparently, nothing is relevant to these people.

Barack Obama condemned the IRS scandal earlier this week saying, “I have got not patience for it… I first learned about this from the same news reports that I think most people learned about this.” But now we know… The Obama administration knew about the IRS targeting scandal in June 2012 – before the November elections. The New York Times reported: The Treasury Department’s inspector general told senior Treasury officials in June 2012 he was auditing the Internal Revenue Service’s screening of politically active organizations seeking tax exemptions, disclosing for the first time on Friday that Obama administration officials were aware of the matter during the presidential campaign year. At the first Congressional hearing into the I.R.S. scandal, J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration, told members of the House Ways and Means Committee that he informed the Treasury’s general counsel of his audit on June 4, and Deputy Treasury Secretary Neal Wolin “shortly thereafter.” It remained unclear how much the disclosure would affect the broader debate over the I.R.S.’s problems. Complaints from Tea Party groups that the I.R.S. was singling them out became public in 2012, through media accounts. What’s this? ABC hack Trey Hardin actually doing journalism? Hardin, during the White House briefing with Jay Carney (who looked like a deer in the headlights) suggested “with a very strong sense of certainty” that the West Wing of the White House authorized the IRS targeting of conservative groups. Obviously one of the items discussed was the WH issued new coded term for “off the record”. OLD SCHOOL media term: “ Off the Record ” NEW SCHOOL WH issued media term: “ Deep Background ” Politico reports the following: The White House held a “deep background” briefing with reporters on Friday afternoon to discuss recent revelations about the Benghazi investigation, sources familiar with the meeting tell POLITICO. The meeting was conducted on “deep background,” according to White House spokesman Josh Earnest, but sources told POLITICO that the existence of the meeting was “off the record.” The meeting began around 12:45 p.m. and postponed the daily, on-the-record White House press briefing until mid-afternoon. The session was announced to reporters in the wake of an ABC News report showing that White House and State Dept. officials were involved in revising the now-discredited CIA talking points about the attack on Benghazi. Emails obtained by ABC News show that State Dept. spokesperson Victoria Nuland requested that the CIA scrub references to an Al Qaeda-linked group, which, Nuland told White House officials, “could be abused by members [of Congress] to beat up the Sta

In December 2012 Barack Obama promised “there will be consequences” if the regime of Bashar Al-Assad in Syria used chemical weapons. “The world is watching.” But that was before reformer Assad used chemical weapons on his own people. The latest line at the White House is, “If he drops sarin on his own people, what’s that got to do with us?” The New York Times reported: Mr. Obama’s advisers also raised legal issues. “How can we attack another country unless it’s in self-defense and with no Security Council resolution?” another official said, referring to United Nations authorization. “If he drops sarin on his own people, what’s that got to do with us?” But they concluded that drawing a firm line might deter Mr. Assad. In addition to secret messages relayed through Russia, Iran and other governments, they decided that the president would publicly address the matter. Several officials said they recalled no discussion about the “red line” phrase but suspected that it came out of the election-year conversation about Iran and how far to allow its nuclear program to progress before being forced to take action.
